Are the service account you are running the chat service from local admin on the server? It needs to be to be able to read the certificate. ".com.sg" - is that the lyncpool or the servername of a std. edition Lync (it needs to be FQDN)(or have you just removed the name for privacy purpose:))?

May 8, 2011 at 10:24 AM

hi,

yes running as the service as administrator, i removed FQDN for privacy purpose.

Have you typed in the correct friendly name for the certificate in the chat service config file?

The error indicates that the service cannot load the certificate properly.

hi mikke,

Thanks for ur help yes, i misspelled the cert name, well now the platform created and all services are running. But cant able to connect from my Phone 7 the error message.

Remote server returned a error: The remote server returned an error: Not Found

How can i validate the installation ?

May 8, 2011 at 3:00 PM

Have you installed the services on the same server as the web services?

If not, is there open between the servers in the firewall? Are you using http or https? If you are using https you need  one of the approved certificates listed in the installation guide.

I am also experiencing this same issue.  I have all 6 LP services running on one machine with the website and notification service on a seperate machine.  All log levels are set to debug and no errors are noted in the l4 logs that are generated.  Portions of each log are shown below.

I am able to browse to the site successfully using internet explorer on the phone (using both HTTP and HTTPS).  When attempting to create a profile, it sems to (shown from the logs above) attemtp to validate  the information and it kinda hangs out for a bit until always returning "NotFound."  I had considered that perhaps I made an error during implemenation, so I started from scratch with new servers, new accounts, new trusted application Lync, etc. and it ultimately produced the same result.

Any assistance that you could provide would be greatly appreciated!

There is no help page at the "mpn" site. This site is not a REST service but is used to "Microsoft Push Notifications".

May 13, 2011 at 7:46 AM

Seems the MPN Service causing the error, i got this error

The service cannot be activated because it does not support ASP.NET compatibility. ASP.NET compatibility is enabled for this application. Turn off ASP.NET compatibility mode in the web.config or add the AspNetCompatibilityRequirements attribute to the service type with RequirementsMode setting as 'Allowed' or 'Required'.

hi mikke,

But in the documentation it says to test test mpn/help.

Hi Jey,

mixed the two sites together, sorry.

I though you meant the "LI.FrontEnd.MPN.Service" added to the default website.

There is a help page on the URL you mention. there is no difference betwen the mpn service and the other services in "LI.FrontEnd.Service" - have you the other services working?

May 13, 2011 at 8:11 AM

yes mikke,

All other services are working in FE, in my other server all services are running but there is only 2 log files content chatservice and livedataservice.

Yes, I am able to load the help page for all services without issue (including mpn).  I just simply am unable to use the LP client from my WP7 device... :(  Mikkel, do you have any suggestions that I might try?

May 13, 2011 at 8:39 AM

As additional information I forgot to include in my original post, the details of the FailedRequest Trace Log from IIS.  Not sure if it does give any more insight, but I figured more information is better :)  Below is the step in the trace that seems to be the 400 error that is returned to the client (what the client returns as "NotFound."

Hi Mikke,

To which site the MPN has to be installed, to default website or LP Frontend site ?, because LP Frontend has one mpn service.

%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set site "Default Web Site" -+bindings.[protocol='net.tcp',bindingInformation='808:*']
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe add app /site.name:"Default Web Site" /path:/mpn /physicalPath:C:\inetpub\wwwroot\LI.FrontEnd.MPN.Service
%windir%\system32\inetsrv\appcmd.exe set app "Default Web Site/mpn" /enabledProtocols:http,https,net.tcp

May 13, 2011 at 10:42 AM

@Jmaudin, i will look into that.

@Jey, there is  two MPN.

One is the serivce added to the front end site and the other from the ".cmd" file is added as an application to Defaultweb site.

The first on  - the WCF service" is where the phone notifications URLs are updated.

The second one (application added to Default Web site) is responsible for sending outbound PUSH notifications - sent on port 80.

Many thanks Mikkel!  BTW, I didn't mean to Hyjack this thread I had originally thought that perhaps Jey and I were experiencing similar issues.  Perhaps we still are.  If at any time I should create a new thread, please let me know!

Hello Mikkel,

Over the last week I've tried a number of additional troubleshooting steps to identify and resolve the issue that I've been describing to no avail.  The most notable of which was to consolidate the FE website onto the same server that the WCF services themselves (and made the appropriate config file changes as necessary) to help to eliminate any potential communication issues and I unfortunately, everything still behaves in the exact same manner whether I attempt to connect using the LP client on a WP7 device over HTTP or HTTPS via WiFi (internal to the network) or the data connection on the phone (external to the network).  The only log entries that are noted are identical to my 4/12 @ 4:37 P.M. post and the behavior on the client device was the same.

Any tips, suggestions, pointers more information I can provide, please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Jeremiah

May 25, 2011 at 5:33 AM

Hi Jeremiah,

Still having the same issue no news from mikkel yet, must be busy. I tried installing in new box and having the same problem. Now suspecting LPFE and MPN. If Mikkel give more information about how to debug will be useful to test.

To test the FE i have changed all the ports to (ADAuth, Chat) wrong in web.config and tried to login got the same errron on phone and IIS log.

Hi Jeremiah,

One quich qustion, did u install UCM API SDK on FE server ?

regards,

May 25, 2011 at 6:12 PM

As you proably read on the our blogs, this is a sparetime project, I will upload a newer version and source code as soon as we get things tested.

To get more information in debug scenarios, set Debug level to "DEBUG" in the log4net.config included in both web service project as well as the windows services.

Thanks,

Mikkel

hi,

Well, i had the same issue (May 13 at 3:39 PM refer ur posting) after installing all in new VM, as per as ur logs the client reaching the FE site properly and sending the request to Chat server and AD authentication it authenticates also, it fails to send the the response to client means MPN is not reachable from chatservices.

1) can u try ping front end server from chat server ?

2) if posssible reinstall both mpn and frontend.

3) confirm tcp 808 protocol enabled through addnettcpbinding script.

It may look simple and u might have done few times but thats what i did to get MPN work,

regards.

Hey jey,

Quick question for you, if you try to load  http://fqdnOfFE/mpn/service.svc in a browser are you able to load it, or do you get an exception "Exception message: An item with the same key has already been added."

Hi,

No it is not. Is ur fe/mpn/help working?

Yup, fe/mpn/help does work...  Returns:

This page describes the service operations at this endpoint.

Uri Method Description
channeluri POST  Service at http://lp.domain.com/mpn/channeluri

Same result if I use HTTPS as well...

May 30, 2011 at 5:14 AM

I *think* I finally made some headway today in at least perhaps determining what is going wrong for me.  I took your advice jey and once again built two new vm's and followed the instructions to the letter, step by step, and produced the same results.  I  review some iof the information on msdn regarding WCF and managed to get Tracing  and message logging turned on for WCF tracing on the FE website.  Now, I can actually see sort of "where the error is happening at least.  The eRror from the wcf trace file while attemping to login using a WP7 device to the LP FE.

I'm not exactly sure which "credentials" it is referring to as invalid; however, I don't think that it is referring to the username, domain and password I entered into the LP client itself, but just to be certain, I tried 4 different user accounts that are absolutely valid and active on Lync and all produced the same results...

you need to have the username entered as "username" - we do not use UPN user@domain.com.

Hi Mikkel,

Thanks so much for your response. I’ve actually tried it a number of different ways. I just happened to post the one trace that included the UPN attempt. By far and large, I have been using simply username, domain, password.

Hi Jeremiah,

Hmm  interesting,

1 ) is both VM part of domain ?

2) under what account the LP services are running (try using admin accuount)

3) is your certificate for FE sites valid ?

To Mikkel,

Below are list of my commets on LP Client (running htc mozart)

1) More often the client cant able  to connect to internet through 3G connection stating offline.

2) Signing in and loading of contact list is slow.
